Vör is an independent research institute founded by 22 companies, corporations and local communities. The main goal of Vör is to investigate the biota and ecology of Breiðafjörður with the aim to gain a better understanding of the ecosystem and it's parameters for sustainability. Focus of research is on the food-web dynamics in Breiðafjörður, with emphasis on research on interactions and energy transfer between primary producers and higher trophic levels.

Vör was founded in 2006 and in the beginning of 2008 open the doors of it´s own research facility at Norðurtanga, Ólafsvík. The research facilities are spacious, state for the art, and a welcoming place for researchers, students, teachers, and the community at large. The vision of research conducted at Vör - The Marine Research Center at Breiðafjörður is to support a sustainable future, for Icelanders and for the scientific community at large.
